Massage is the systematic and scientific manipulation of soft body tissue. It has been used for thousands of years for relaxation and to restore and promote the good health of both mind and body. Massage reduces stress, relieves physical tension, improves mental response and productivity, aids in the prevention of repetitive stress syndrome (RSS), increases cardiovascular efficiency, enhances the immune system and reduces injury recovery time.

About Chiropractic

How does chiropractic care work?
Chiropractic helps to remove postural imbalances and structural misalignments that can accumulate in our bodies over time. Our spines change and develop problems just like our teeth, eyes and heart. Left unchecked for a long time, these changes may lead to pain, stiffness or other more serious problems.

The nervous system is a key part of your body. It is the communication system between your brain and all of your body’s muscles, organs and tissues. For your body to remain healthy, your nervous system must function well. For your nervous system to function well, it must be free of interference. The spine is the most common site of nervous interference because nerves travel from the spinal cord through openings on either side of the spine to get to all of your cells and organs.

Think of your brain as a central command post sending and receiving information through telephone wires (your nerves), which branch out to connect all areas of a city (your body). A short circuit in a wire cuts off communication just like misalignments in your spine can put pressure on the nerves. This pressure interferes with your nervous system, affects your ability to self-heal and may prolong injury or illness.

What is a chiropractic adjustment? Is it safe?
An adjustment is the main method of treatment used by your chiropractor. It is a specialized gentle, controlled and safe pressure applied to your spine to restore the proper motion and position of your vertebrae. It is a precise procedure that your highly skilled chiropractor has learned and perfected over years of chiropractic college and clinical practice.

Why should I see a chiropractor?
From professional athletes to homemakers, engineers to electricians, infants to seniors, chiropractic care has been the answer to optimum health. Many people see a chiropractor for back, neck or joint problems, while others may seek relief from the discomfort caused by headaches, high blood pressure, asthma or other conditions. Still others find that regular visits to their chiropractor keep them in peak condition.

Do many people see chiropractors?
Alternative health care is on a meteoric rise in this country and chiropractic is by far the most popular form. According to current research, approximately one third of the population recognizes the benefits of alternative health. The majority of these alternative healthcare users choose chiropractic. The non-surgical, drug-free healing nature of chiropractic provides benefit to the health of millions of people worldwide each year. Most chiropractic patients experience real relief and general well being and continue to make regular visits as part of their healthy life choice.

Is chiropractic effective?
Yes. Chiropractic care is safe and effective. Scientific evidence proving that chiropractic care works is overwhelming. Over the past 20 years, many controlled and independent research studies have shown again and again that chiropractic care is safe and effective for treating low back pain, neck pain, headaches and other conditions relating to the spine*. Based on these scientific studies, the consensus is that chiropractic care is the treatment of choice for most spinal problems.

The human body has the natural power to heal itself, but it sometimes needs help putting that power into action. Chiropractic assists the natural healing process by helping maintain, restore or enhance your health without drugs or surgery.

Chiropractic works with your body’s “total neuro-musculo-skeletal system” – which controls your nerves, muscles and bones. Because the body’s various systems depend on one another to a large extent, the neuro-musculo-skeletal system plays a primary role in your health. This interaction means that chiropractic treatment of your spine often has a beneficial effect on problems in other areas of your body, such as headaches and sciatica.

Danielle’s unique educational background started with certification as an Equine Sports Therapist from the BC College of Equine Sports Therapy, followed by a Certification as a Spa Therapist from the Vancouver School of Bodywork and Massage in 2012. Becoming a Registered Massage Therapist was the natural progression, combining her passion for holistic care with anatomy and physiology. She graduated from the Vancouver College of Massage Therapy in 2019.

Though Danielle is versatile in her ability to utilize a variety of techniques to accommodate each patient’s individual needs, her ability to work tissue deeply while still providing a relaxing treatment is what comes naturally to her as a therapist. Patients should expect to spend a few minutes at the beginning and end of their appointment going over their treatment needs and home care plan.

Danielle’s passion for helping people is evident in both her personal and professional life. As a therapist she takes great pride in taking meticulous care of her patients’ needs and comfort while working with them on their personal care goals. In Danielle’s personal life she can be found running her Charity, Leash of Hope Assistance dogs, where she rescues dogs and trains them to be guide or service dogs for people with disabilities. In 2019, Danielle’s charitable work was recognized by L’Oreal with the Women of Worth Award. This aspect of her background facilitated the opportunity to be extremely knowledgeable and competent at working with patients with specific needs such as those who are mobility aid users, or have visual or hearing impairments. She also actively participates in adapted sport such as blind hockey, equestrian sports, running and now training to be a competitive rower.

Tips for helping your session go smoothly with a blind therapist.

Danielle will guide you through what she needs, but please note the following:

-Be communicative and specific. Avoid pointing and saying things such as “I have pain here”.

-Inform Danielle of any open wounds, rashes or areas on the body that should be avoided. A sighted therapist will avoid these concerns automatically, however, since Danielle cannot see them she needs your help to be conscious of where to avoid.

-Don’t move furniture or items around. It can be hazardous and impede Danielle’s ability to move around the room smoothly during your treatment.

-Leave all your belongings in the designated area. Do not bring your cell phone or glasses onto the treatment table. Avoid leaving your shoes around the table, or let Danielle know they are there.

-Remove any dangly jewellery.

-Be courteous to her guide dog Starling (during your session she may be in the treatment room.) It is understandable that not everyone likes dogs. However, Starling is specially trained to assist Danielle to get around safely. It is important not to feed or distract Starling from doing her job, especially when in harness. When Starling is off duty on her dog bed you might be able to interact with her if you ask first.
